Your break-even app price
Works in any currency. Nothing you type leaves this page.
Example numbers. Replace them with yours.
The dish's price on your own menu.
From a month of payout statements: (menu sales before tax and tips − your payout) ÷ menu sales × 100. Work out each app on its own.
With the example numbers
Price it at 20.00 or more on the app.
That's 43% above your in-house price. At that price the app keeps 6.00 and you keep the same 14.00 as a dining room sale. Packaging still comes out of your side, so treat it as the floor.

How the break-even app price works
An app order should leave you the same money as the same dish sold in your dining room. The app takes its commission from the app price, so you price up from your in-house price.
Write the rate as a decimal: 30% is 0.30, so you divide by 0.70.
A 14.00 dish at a 30% real rate needs 14.00 ÷ 0.70 = 20.00 on the app. The app keeps 30% of 20.00, which is 6.00, and you keep 14.00, the same as a dining room sale. That's a 43% markup for a 30% commission: the markup is always bigger than the commission, because the app takes its cut from the higher price too.
Use the real rate from your payout statement, not the rate in your plan: marketing fees, promotions you agreed to fund and refunds can come out of your payout too. The delivery app commission guide shows how to work it out, what an app order really leaves you, and how to move regulars to direct ordering.
Common questions
Where do I find my real commission rate?
On your payout statements. Take a full month for one app: menu sales before tax and tips, minus what the app paid you, divided by those menu sales. Work out each app on its own, and take out any sales tax or tips passed on to you first.
Why isn't a 30% markup enough for a 30% commission?
The app takes its cut from the marked-up price. 14.00 plus 30% is 18.20, and the app keeps 30% of that, 5.46, which leaves you 12.74. It takes 43% to leave you the full 14.00.
Does every dish need the same markup?
At the same rate, yes: the break-even markup depends only on the rate, so 30% needs at least 43% on every dish. Round odd prices up, not down, and take dishes that travel badly or earn little off the app menu.
Can I charge more on the app than in my dining room?
Most apps let you set app prices separately from your dining room. Some limit how much higher app prices can be if you want their badges or promotions, and higher prices can mean fewer app orders. Read your agreement and your app's pricing rules before you change prices.
