Can guests order from you in ChatGPT, Claude or Google Maps?
Which restaurant systems take orders through ChatGPT, Claude and Google's Ask Maps today, the steps on Square and Toast, and what to do if you're on neither. Checked November 1, 2026.

Key takeaways
- In the U.S., on Square with Online Ordering, guests may already reach you in ChatGPT and Claude. Google's Ask Maps also needs your profile connected and one setting.
- Toast says restaurants using its online ordering need no extra work for Google's Ask Maps, in the U.S. We found no Toast announcement for ChatGPT or Claude.
- On other systems we found no built-in way to take these orders, only a few small ChatGPT apps, and no page shows an assistant ordering from a plain website.
- The only count we found is tiny, so it's no reason to change your register: DoorDash's CEO put outside agents at maybe several hundred orders.

In the U.S., if you use Square's or Toast's online ordering, guests may already be able to order from you through an AI assistant, or you may be one setting away. On the other systems we checked, we found no way to do this yet. The only count we found is very small, so this isn't a reason to change your register or to worry.
The one number we found
On DoorDash's latest earnings call, its CEO said outside AI agents had sent “maybe several hundred orders in total,” Magica reported. The same report puts DoorDash at 993 million orders in the third quarter. He gave no exact count, and the two figures don't cover the same stretch of time, but the gap is huge. We found no such numbers from Square or Toast.
Choosing a restaurant is further along than ordering from one. In a survey DoorDash commissioned (Dynata asked 3,001 U.S. consumers in March 2026), 22% said they had used an AI tool to help choose a restaurant.
This is worth one look at your settings, so you know where you stand. It isn't a project.
Your system, one by one
| Your system | Assistant | Live? | What you do | What it costs | Where the guest pays |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Square | ChatGPT, Claude | Yes, since July 1, 2026. U.S. | Have an active Square Online Ordering profile. Eligible sellers are opted in. | Your existing Square online processing rate. No platform fee, and no marketplace commission. | It varies: in the assistant, or on your Square ordering page. |
| Square | Ask Maps | Rolling out since August 6, 2026. U.S. | The same, plus connect your Google Business Profile and enable Order with Google through Square. | Your existing Square online processing rate, no added fees. | The pages differ. Square says in Ask Maps, with Order by Cash App. Google says in the partner's app. |
| Toast | Ask Maps | Rolling out since August 6, 2026. U.S. | Toast says “no extra work required.” Orders run through its own online ordering, so that should be on. Toast doesn't spell this out for Ask Maps. | Toast calls it commission-free. That covers commissions only: the pages we read give no figure for Online Ordering or card processing. | Toast doesn't say. Google says in the partner's app. |
| Toast | ChatGPT, Claude | No Toast announcement found. | Nothing yet. | Not applicable. | Not applicable. |
| Clover | Any | Nothing live found. Fiserv, which owns Clover, said in February it was working on enabling all merchants and named Clover as one of its platforms. No date. | Nothing yet. | Not applicable. | Not applicable. |

| Uber Eats | Ask Maps | Google said “coming soon” in August, and its help page now names Uber Eats. We couldn't confirm it's live. | Nothing stated. | No fee stated. Same plans. | The Uber Eats app, Google says. |
| Grubhub | ChatGPT | Yes, browsing: restaurants and menus, reported since June 2026. | Nothing stated. | No fee stated. Plans: 5%, 15% or 20% commission; its own delivery from 10%; processing extra. | On Grubhub, FastCasual reports. |
| Grubhub | Alexa+ | Rolling out since March 31, 2026, as of Amazon's post: delivery, on newer Echo Show 8 devices and larger. | Nothing stated. The guest links an account in the Alexa app. | No fee stated. Same plans. | Amazon doesn't say. Alexa shows the total before the purchase. |
| DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub | Gemini | Beta, released gradually. Gemini works in the delivery app on newer phones: Pixel 10 and 11, Galaxy S26 and some others. Google lists the U.S., India, Japan, South Korea and the UK. | Nothing. Google's page names no food apps; 9to5Google named these three in March. | No fee stated. Same plans. | The delivery app, in Google's DoorDash example. |
| Bites | ChatGPT | Yes. Its listing shows San Jose, Fremont and Santa Clara. | A contact form. Bites doesn't say which POS you need. | $1 per order. | Bites doesn't say. |
Square also says it plans to reach Alexa+. It isn't live yet, as far as Square's July release says.
If you're on Square
Square has the fullest instructions, on its AI page. They apply to U.S. food and beverage sellers. In ChatGPT and Claude, guests use an app called Order by Cash App. Both directories list it as something a guest adds, so a guest who hasn't added it may never see you there.
- For ChatGPT and Claude, check that your Square Online Ordering profile is active. Square says eligible sellers are opted in with no setup, so you may already be on.
- Keep your menu, hours and stock current in Square, so guests order what you really have.
- For Ask Maps, Square lists two more things: connect your Google Business Profile, and enable Order with Google through Square. Square's August release mentions only the profile, so check your Dashboard to see where you stand. Your menu, hours and location then sync from Square.
- Preview it, so you see what a guest sees. Add Order by Cash App from ChatGPT's app store or Claude's directory, and ask it to order from your business. In Google Maps, ask Ask Maps to order from your restaurant and pick Order by Cash App from the options. Stop before you pay, unless you want a real order on your kitchen screen.
- Watch for them in your Dashboard, POS and Kitchen Display. Square says orders are tagged by source and shows the source in its reporting, so count them there.
- To turn it off, go to Square Dashboard > Online Channels > AI assistants, and switch it off. Square doesn't say whether this covers each assistant, so check Ask Maps afterward.
Square says these orders are billed at your existing Square online processing rate, with no platform fee. It doesn't say what fees a guest sees, or whether ChatGPT and Claude orders can be delivered as well as picked up. Google adds that ordering in Ask Maps is in English only, for guests 18 or over, in the U.S.
If you're on Toast
Toast says there's “no extra work required” from you for Ask Maps. Those orders run through Toast's own online ordering, so check that yours is on. To see what a guest sees, ask Ask Maps for your own restaurant and start an order. Stop before you pay.
Toast does have a setting for Google ordering: Toast Web > Takeout & delivery > Google Management > Google Listings, then Save to Google. You can also turn it off in your Google Business Profile, under Food ordering, with “Accept orders on your profile”, which overrides Toast Web. Changes can take up to 48 hours. Toast doesn't say whether this setting also controls Ask Maps: its help page, updated October 27, doesn't mention Ask Maps at all.
We found no Toast announcement for ChatGPT or Claude.
If you're on a delivery app
The table shows what's live. None of the pages we read gives a restaurant anything to switch on, or a way to opt out. If you want to know what the percentages mean for your menu, our delivery app commissions guide works through them.
If you're on none of these
Here's the honest answer. Beyond the big systems, a few small apps take orders inside ChatGPT, such as Bites and VoiceBit, each for restaurants on its own platform. We didn't test them, and we found nothing like this for Claude or Ask Maps. No page we read shows any assistant ordering from a plain website. So you may have to wait, and that's fine at today's numbers.
Three things you can do now, none of which needs a new system:
- Put your own order link on Google. In your Google Business Profile, go to Food ordering, choose “Add a link” at the bottom of the list, then “Set as preferred” for pickup or delivery, so a guest on your listing can order from you directly. Leave “Accept orders on your profile” on: turning it off hides every option. Google's page doesn't mention Ask Maps, and Ask Maps sends guests to partner apps, so this isn't an Ask Maps order.
- Write your menu as text on your website, not only as a photo or PDF, so anyone reading the page gets the dishes and prices.
- Keep your hours, address and menu current on Google and on your site, so guests get the right answer wherever they ask.
What we don't know: where assistants get menus for restaurants that aren't connected to them, and whether a text menu changes what they say about you. We'd rather tell you that than guess.
What's coming
The Universal Commerce Protocol is an open standard for catalogs, carts, checkout and orders, and its food part is marked “coming soon.” Google's page on it offers only a waitlist for now, with no date.
Meta's help page on connectors for its Muse assistant names Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Gmail, Google Workspace, Apple Health and Android SMS, and no restaurant connector. That page isn't the full list, which sits in the app's settings, and we couldn't read it. Neither of these needs anything from you today.
